We could’ve just bought a new sofa. Actually, we couldn’t. And it wasn’t because we didn’t want to. The truth is, we couldn’t afford one. So we settled for the next best thing: An old IKEA KARLANDA sofa that a close friend had given us. There was only one problem: The sofa was freaking ugly.
To fix this sofa ‘situation’, we decided to make a slipcover for it with the help of a couple of YouTube tutorials and a second-hand sewing machine. Let’s just say it took a handful of tries to get it right, but we got there eventually.
In fact, friends and neighbours liked our slipcover so much that they started asking us to make more for them. To keep up with orders, we worked full-time jobs during the day and made slipcovers at night with the help of two seamstresses we'd hired.
By 2010, our first online store was up, and before we knew it, people from outside of Australia started asking us if we could save their IKEA sofas.
In 2011, we started running our own workshop in Hong Kong, and then Shenzhen, China. Since then, we’ve continued to grow our team and fulfill our mission of putting smiles on the faces of sofa owners everywhere.
